Kosovo Anti-Corruption Chief Held For Corruption

Nazmi Mustafi, head of the Anti-Corruption Taskforce set up by Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, has himself been arrested for corruption. Mustafi was arrested on Monday on charges of corruption and abuse of his official position in a case being investigated by the EU rule of law, EULEX, prosecutors.

According to sources within EULEX, Mustafi was detained in connection to alleged extortion of money from at least one suspect whom he was investigating. In a press release, EULEX wrote that the offences being investigated were “abuse of official position or authority and trading in influence.

Bo Xilai, the brash Communist Party chief of the Chongqing municipality in China’s southwest, has been removed from his post, an unmistakable sign that recent scandals in that city have put an end to his political ambitions and complicated the national leadership transition that will take place in the fall.

Until recently, Mr. Bo had been expected to join the all-powerful Standing Committee of the Politburo, a nine-member body that effectively runs the country. Seven of the members are to be replaced, and Mr. Bo’s demotion suggests there will be more drama in a usually secret process.
